The tree gets its name from the long sausage like fruit ( weighing around 5 -10 kgs) seen dangling from the branches. Flowers are similar to the African Tulip tree but more waxy. The fruit attracts animals and bats.
It is said, that care should be taken while planting the tree since the falling fruit can injure humans and damage cars that may be parked underneath it.
Botanical name: Kigelia africana Family: Bignoniaceae (Jacaranda family)
( the flower is said to be red or purple - the dark colour here may be because of the hot summer)
